Honors Baccalaureate Thesis

The Honors Baccalaureate Degree is a great way to really dig into research in your field as an undergraduate student.

The Honors Baccalaureate Degree is a specialized, optional academic plan for students interested in research, graduate school, or graduating with a publication. The Honors Student writes a thesis paper, participates in a class to learn academic procedure for thesis production, and meets with a thesis board to practice defending a fully researched idea. The paper is then published by the school and added to the Garland Dupre Library, and the student is recognized during the Honors Cording Ceremony. In addition to these accolades, the Baccalaureate degree is an excellent tool for graduates on resumes and curriculum vitaes.

Why Pursue an Honors Baccalaureate?

Completing an Honors Baccalaureate can:

  • Help you decide if advanced academic research is right for you
  • Strengthen graduate or professional school applications
  • Provide recognition for your scholarly work

Eligibility & Requirements

Honors Students are required to be in good standing with the Honors Program and have at least a 3.5 GPA in order to begin the preparation for writing an Honors Thesis. The decision to pursue the Honors Baccalaureate should be made during the student's sophomore or junior year. They will take three courses (HONRS 497, 498, and 499) to help them along the way in the process.

Students are also required to choose a committee of 3 faculty members to serve on their thesis committee. Each faculty member is required to be graduate faculty. The student's thesis chair and one of their other committee members must be part of their academic department, but the last committee member may come from another department if they choose.
